Kapers Trial, August 23, 24, 2008
What a great trial! Momentous, bittersweet,
challenging, fun!!!! Thanks to all who were good enough to
give freely and willingly of their time and energy to help
the few who were trying to get it all done. We had some
great moments.....Saturday Newman and Jeri got their ATChC
and Bronze, Toffee and Erin got their Silver and top Masters
Dog. Our own Junior Handler, Michelle Buckingham, got her
Starters Junior Handler title with Annika (YAY!) and the
Family Piercy got Judge’s choice. On Sunday, Ryder and Jean
got their ATChC, Bailey Wall and Ursula got Top Starters
Dog, Jazz and Brenda got Top Advanced Dog and Toffee and
Erin got Top Masters dog, as well as overall Top Gamblers
dog. In addition, Jean got Judges Choice on Sunday. What a
showing for a small group who were working their hearts out
to keep the trial running smoothly and still managed to keep
their connection with their dogs. It should be an
inspiration for all of us.!!! Congratulations to all the
successful participants, and again a huge thanks to all who
gave of their time to make this trial a success.

NB/PEI REGIONALS June 28, 29, 2008
The 2008 NB/PEI Regionals were hosted by Master’s Agility at their
field in Salisbury, N.B. The Kapers sent a record-setting 17
fabulous teams who gave a great showing in both rain and shine over
the weekend: Julia Anderson and Cooke, Brenda Boyd and Annika,
Brenda and Jazz, Kathy Boyd and Dakota, Jean Fisher and Ryder, Jean
and Carly, Sam Hodgson and Dog, Kelly Kelly and Harleigh D, Julie
Lizotte and Webber, Julie and Bree, Mary MacLennan and Morgan, Mary
and Taylor, Erin Piercy and Toffee, Jeri Piercy and Bailey, Jeri and
Newman, Elizabeth Wilson and Belle, Elizabeth and Damita (proud
owner Maureen Clements).
A few of the teams were at their very first Regionals and we are so
proud of how well both trainer and dog handled the excitement,
pressure (and did we mention, rain?)!!
We especially congratulate the 14 Kapers teams who achieved the
minimum 350 aggregate points to qualify for the 2008 Nationals to
take place in Sussex, N.B. August 8-10. Mark your calendars and BE
THERE! because here’s the categories in which Kapers teams could
dominate:
REGULARS:
16”: Taylor & Mary
22”: Bree & Julie, Toffee & Erin, Webber & Julie
SPECIALS and VETS:
6”: Belle & Elizabeth
10”: Harleigh D & Kelly, Morgan & Mary
16”: Bailey & Jeri, Dakota & Kathy, Damita & Elizabeth (Maureen),
Dog & Sam, Jazz & Brenda, Newman & Jeri, Ryder & Jean

NATIONALS 2007-HALTON HILLS, ON
The 15 NB/PEI dogs and
their handlers who competed at the Nationals in August did a great
job in representing agility in our region. They all ran their hearts
out amid the heat, dust and commotion of a 4 day event, making those
of us who were observing and/or volunteering very proud!
Like the Regionals, the
competitive teams ran six courses: 2 Standard, 2 Gamblers and 2
Jumpers. They ran one of each on Friday, Gamblers and Jumpers on
Saturday and the second Standard on Sunday. Most of the teams had
preceded that with some warm up games and/or the Steeplechase
challenge on the Thursday, making it an event to test the stamina of
both dogs and their trainers!
Four volunteers from our
region: Jean and Bob Fisher, Kathy Boyd and Shirley Dingley, also
did their part to ensure the success of the 2007 Nationals. They
were watching closely in preparation for the Maritimes hosting the
Nationals at Sussex in 2008!
Following is a listing of
some of our Kapers teams’ aggregate scores based on the six events:
16” Regular: Annika (B.
Boyd) 375.80
22” Regular: Toffee (E.
Piercy) 483.68
26” Regular: Newman (J.
Piercy) 309.76
10” Specials: Morgan (M.
MacLellan) 412.52
10” Vets: Chanti (M.
Clements) 394.78; Harleigh D (K. Kelly) 339.72
16” Vets: Bailey (J.
Piercy) 481.44
As you can see, our top
team was our youngest, Erin and Toffee, edging out her Mom and
Bailey by 2.24 points. What a showing for such a young team in their
first year of trialing! Their star is rising and we should all be
prepared to watch and wonder, as well as support the fundraisers
when they get to be part of Canada’s World Team!
In addition, Mary and
Morgan achieved rosettes for their 4th placing in their
Friday Jumpers run and their 7th placing in the second
Standard event on Sunday.
Five other teams in our
Region also fared very well with aggregate scores over 400: Tony and
Blaze; Shelley and Bandit; Jerry and Apollo; Darr and Buddy; Annette
and Fax.
Some of the Kapers teams
also had great fun entering the Steeplechase challenge on Thursday
where the top 50% of each class got to go on to Round 2 on Saturday.
The teams of Erin and Toffee, Mary and Morgan, Jean and Ryder all
“Q’d” on Thursday and got scores high enough to qualify for Round 2.
The website of the AAC, in
the thank you section to everyone for a successful 2007 Nationals
concludes with the following: “See you all next year in New
Brunswick!” So will we be ready??? The Kapers will surely do their
part!
A sample of the 2007
Nationals comes through in the photos below taken by various of our
Kapers folk:

June 9th
and 10th
The
Kapers hosted the 2007 NB/PEI Regionals June 9th and 10th
at Woolastook Campground. Along with the Regional runs, a Gamblers
and a Standard qualifying run were was also offered. There was a
higher than average turn out for the Regionals, with 38 dogs
entered. There was a 52% Q rate, with 20 of the 38 dogs entered
qualifying to go to the Nationals. It was exciting having the PEI
contingent trying the Regionals for the first time.
Congratulations go out to club member Brenda Boyd and Annika for
achieving their ATCh on day two with the Gamblers run. We love
giving those trophies out.
